New to the portfolio: The microArch S350—the 25-micrometer platform from Boston Micro Fabrication

Boston Micro Fabrication is expanding its portfolio of high-resolution micro-3D printers with a new model: the microArch S350. The system fills a gap in the product lineup and makes BMF’s proven PµSL technology accessible for an even broader range of applications.

From the P-150 to the S350: A Consistent Evolution

For several years now, Boston Micro Fabrication has been one of the leading providers of micro 3D printing. With resolutions and tolerances that are unmatched in the market, the company serves customers in industries such as electronics, optics and photonics, medical technology, and the life sciences.

In the 25µm segment, the P-150 was previously BMF’s entry-level system. It was primarily used in research but, due to its limited build volume, was not suitable for every application. This is exactly where the microArch S350 comes in: It offers the same resolution class but with a significantly larger build platform of 100 × 100 mm, as well as additional automation features that customers have repeatedly requested.

Why 25 µm Resolution Can Be More Than Sufficient

Not every application requires the ultra-precision of BMF’s 2 µm or 10 µm systems. For many components in fields such as prototyping, small-batch production, or research, a resolution of 25 µm is entirely sufficient—while also offering a larger build volume and potentially shorter print times. Compared to other DLP-based 3D printers on the market, which typically achieve resolutions between 40 and 100 µm, the S350 thus remains clearly in the upper precision range of its class.

Greater Flexibility in Materials

Another advantage of the S350 concerns material selection: For the first time, the system allows the direct use of resins from independent third-party suppliers without requiring any adjustments to the printer. Compatibility with 3D Systems’ MED resin and Henkel’s 3955 flame-retardant resin has already been announced. For users, this means greater freedom in material selection and the ability to more specifically meet requirements in medical technology or electronics.

The S350 at a Glance

  • Resolution: 25 µm
  • Build platform: 100 × 100 mm
  • Successor to: P-150
  • Special feature: Additional automation functions and open material compatibility with third-party resins
  • Positioning: Significantly more precise than comparable DLP systems on the market (40–100 µm resolution)

Conclusion

With the microArch S350, Boston Micro Fabrication rounds out its portfolio in the 25 µm segment and offers users a practical alternative to the previous P-150—with a larger build volume, more automation, and greater material flexibility. The system is therefore particularly well-suited for anyone who wants to benefit from the proven PµSL precision without having to compromise on build volume.
